“New Castle County will soon deploy acoustic inspection technology to detect sewer line blockages. It detects sewer line blockages through sound waves, and can help workers find and clean blockages before a sewage overflow….

“This specific technology allows us to determine whether sewer lines need to be cleaned or not,” said County Operation Services Manager Robert Roff. “Right now when the county goes into a neighborhood to clean the collector system, we clean every single line segment”

Kristen Steach, Wastewater Technical Services Coordinator at the City of Kingsport, Tn discusses the value of using acoustic inspection at 3:10 minutes into the video.  The video shows how Kingsport uses Cartegraph and Cartegraph for iPad to manage their city and to measure the trade-off and value of using the Sewer Line Rapid Assessment Tool (SL-RAT) for providing a cost-effective tool for triaging their collection system.

The AWEA Collection Systems Committee announces its Workshop No. 3 to be held on Thursday, December 8, 2016 in Huntsville, Alabama.
